REFLECTIVE RIDING
This is a powerful technique I first experienced while working with best-selling author Linda Kohanov, (https://eponaquest.com/about/books/)
At the beginning of my reflective riding session, I asked Linda if the horse I was riding had an issue going to the right since he would not get near the rail while going that direction. He seemed fine going to the left. She responded with, “Yes, he does. Do you have an issue with your right side?” Well, the answer was yes. She spent time guiding me through a Body Scan while I rode calmly to the left where the horse seemed completely comfortable walking near the fence. Completing the body scan until there was no tension in my right side, we quietly turned and headed the other direction. WOW! Unbelievably the horse walked comfortably to the right while only a few feet from the fence. Prior to the Body Scan he was about 7 feet from the fence. I was amazed and so impressed with the success of this simple technique. With no forcing and trying to make the horse bend and move to the right, he was able to comply after spending time exploring and reflecting about my own body.
Later, I attended my year-long Epona Quest apprentice program and perfected leading others through this simple effective technique to resolve endless and repetitive problems.
